Alesis, a company famous for some really nice audio equipment, has made a product that turns your iPod into a portable digital recorder. The name is ProTrack and it neatly hugs your iPod, making it a nice tool for those that might put their iPod to some other use than just listening.

In case you don’t want to use Alesis’s integrated condenser microphones, the product comes with a pair of combo XLR – ¼ inch inputs for external microphones. If running on plug-in power, this little baby will supply your mics with 48V phantom power, so recording enthusiasts might find this a really helpful gadget.

It will record 16-bit audio of 44.1kHz or 22kHz quality in stereo, and the built-in microphones are placed in XY configuration for a better stereo image. Alesis claims four to five hours of operation on four AAA batteries, and the AC power adapter is included.

It supports Classic and 5th generation iPods, as well as 2nd and 3rd generation iPod Nano devices.

Here's how it looks and you can find out more on Alesis's official site here.
